August 24, 2011 Hello to all Bulldog Backers, and welcome to our 24th season of football here at James Bowie High School.
Please accept my appreciation for your continued support over the years and for this upcoming season. Especially, thanks to all of you – the fans, parents, students, faculty, administration, cheerleaders, Silver Stars, band, color guard, booster clubs, student managers, student trainers, and more – who make our Bowie football community the best in Austin.
Our young men return to the football field in 2011 with high expectations and hopes after last year's remarkable late-season run that produced our third District Championship, a Bi-District Championship with a win over Georgetown, an Area Championship with a win over Klein Collins, and an appearance in the Regional Semi-Finals.
While last year's season was enjoyable, our road this year will be every bit as challenging with one of the area's toughest non-district schedules: Pflugerville, Round Rock Westwood, Round Rock High, Leander and Waco Midway before we take on our District 15-5A opponents.
Our coaching staff is very excited about this team. We have 23 lettermen returning from last year's playoff-tested team, including three (3) offensive starters and four (4) defensive starters. And, while we prepare this year's Bulldogs for the challenges on the field, we also are committed to ensure they succeed in the classroom and continue to learn and understand the value of having high morals, working hard, and being good citizens.
As you all have entrusted me and my staff to train these young men to be Champions For Life, please know that I am proud to serve as their head coach. GO DAWGS!
Sincerely, Jeff Ables Athletic Coordinator / Head Football Coach
